IMU Fiber System

Indianola Municipal Utilities is proud to offer Indianola businesses access to telephone, Internet, and other network services that utilize fiber optic lines connected directly to customers’ premises. IMU and the private sector have partnered to provide access to these state-of-the-art telecommunication services. This partnership is called The Indianola Communications Agency (ICA).

Services are offered at various speeds and prices:

• Incremental pricing for Mbps (upload, download, or both) up to 10Mbps
• 10Mbps using standard equipment on a common fiber strand
• 40Mbps using standard equipment on a common fiber strand
• 100Mbps using standard equipment on a dedicated fiber strand
• 1Gbps using dedicated equipment on a dedicated fiber strand

The ICA is also able to tailor network uses of dedicated dark fiber and redundancy solutions to customers’ specifications.

Customers receive their services through a retail provider licensed by the ICA to operate on its network. The retail provider has extensive network design and customer service abilities to meet the high expectations set by business customers.

Wholesale service is delivered to the local point of presence facility via a SONET protected fiber optic ring, with redundant access into and out of Indianola. The wholesale provider accesses over 100 points of presence and major national and regional interconnection points through the Midwest Carrier Consortium.
