The Indianola Municipal Utilities water treatment facility was constructed in 1997 and is a 3.3 million gallon per day, lime softening plant. It is staffed by six highly qualified staff members with over one hundred years of combined experience. Average daily pumpage currently ranges from 1.0 to 1.4 million gallons per day.
Water Source:
• Cambrian-Jordan Sandstone Aquifer
Treatment Process:
• Raw water pumped to treatment plant by four deep water wells
• Raw water hardness is around 250 parts per million (PPM)
• Raw water is aerated to remove hydrogen sulfide and is oxidized
• First stage of softening process-lime and polymers are added
• Second stage of softening process-flocculation occurs and lime waste is
removed
• Third stage of softening process-final stage of sedimentation occurs
• Chlorine is added-2 to 3 parts per million (PPM)
• During filtration, the hardness of water is reduced to 100-120 parts per million
(PPM)
Distribution System:
• Four deep water wells with pumping capacity:
500 gallons/minute
900 gallons/minute
1,350 gallons/minute
1,650 gallons/minute
• Maximum daily pumping capacity out of treatment plant is 3.3 million gallons
• 90 miles of various sized mains ranging from 4” residential service mains to 20”
high service mains
• 680,000 gallon underground clear well storage tank at treatment plant

Services are offered at various speeds and prices:
• Incremental pricing for Mbps (upload, download, or both) up to 10Mbps
• 10Mbps using standard equipment on a common fiber strand
• 40Mbps using standard equipment on a common fiber strand
• 100Mbps using standard equipment on a dedicated fiber strand
• 1Gbps using dedicated equipment on a dedicated fiber strand
The ICA is also able to tailor network uses of dedicated dark fiber and redundancy solutions to customers’ specifications.
Customers receive their services through a retail provider licensed by the ICA to operate on its network. The retail provider has extensive network design and customer service abilities to meet the high expectations set by business customers.
